Helping make potential terrorists a little more relaxed

September 28th, 2007

When it enacted the Privacy Act in 1974, Congress sought to restrict the amount of personal information that federal agencies could collect and, significantly, required agencies to be transparent in their information practices. The Privacy Act is intended “to promote accountability, responsibility, legislative oversight, and open government with respect to the use of computer technology in the personal information systems and data banks of the Federal Government[.]” Adherence to these requirements is critical for a system like Secure Flight.

Nike doing right by me, it seems

September 26th, 2007

Nike, it seems is doing something sort of unique: it’s doing target marketing to a specific segment of society.

Before you jump up and down, wanting to hit that comment button and tell me how stupid I am, telling me many companies already do that, listen to me. Okay?

Find your Windows key and other info on your computer

September 20th, 2007

Have you ever been in one of those situations where you needed some key information about your computer quickly? Perhaps you called Microsoft’s Tech Support about an issue and needed the serial number for your operating system, or maybe you need your Windows Vista or Windows XP product key to do a quick re-install. You can find the CD, but that long product key is misplaced. If you don’t have the case with the sticker, chances are, Microsoft won’t tell you the product key, as you could be pirating the software.

Blogging about your business is essential

September 14th, 2007

Five years ago, even less in many cases, a lot of businesses didn’t have Web sites, let alone email, so customers could shoot off an email or check the site to see if the store carries a certain product.

September 12th, 2007

After three days of email exchanges, Oliver sent me an alpha version of cForms 5.4. Alpha versions of development — pre-beta releases. Betas are basically “stable” products that are being considered for release. I’ve been alpha- and beta-testing for almost 20 years, so I backed up my database, installed and activated cForms 5.4 alpha, and went to work.

Sleep humor for sleep deprived Americans and others

September 11th, 2007

I stumbled across a video a few minutes ago that I thought was an ad by Respironics. It’s a hilarious look at sleep, sleep deprivation in the American society, along with a variety of other sleep-related issues, including, for some, sexual dysfunction, and others.

9-11-2001 and how I survived that day

September 11th, 2007

It’s been six years since that fateful day that literally rocked America. In fact, it was a day that, for most Americans, made them realize what others in many nations deal with on a regular basis: something called living life with bunch of radical terrorists who are little more than loons.

As I’ve written in the past, I was in New York City on September 11, 2001. In fact, I was there, with my daughter, who is now almost 21. If you take it out forty seconds more, she and I would have been dead, victims in the first assault on the Twin Towers.

Today, the sixth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, though, I decided to write about what happened to my daughter and I that day in New York City and how we were almost killed that day.

How to control poppy in Afghanistan

September 9th, 2007

There’s an easy solution for controlling poppy farming in Afghanistan, yet it seems the U.S., with all its DEA and other alphabet soup agencies in that country. It seems the agents all want to be known for thinking and coming up with a new solution.
