Thanksgiving is over, and hopefully you walked away from the table last evening with a full belly. In my home, I know my family and extended family did, but even my dog ate better than some people did last night, or, for that matter, any night of the year. That alone was plenty for us to be thankful for, but there were many other things on our list, just to be clear.
Today, though, while clicking through various emails that have been received over the past few days, as well as the blog posts displaying in RSS that I am catching up on today, I found an interesting Black Friday Tech Freebie, one more thing that can help some have even more reason to be thankful for this weekend.
A product I use all the time, Camtasia Studio, currently in version 5, is available for free download. Yep, just like all good things, there is a catch. The free download version is version 3.1.3.
Before you go asking, no, this is not a 30-day trial version of Techsmith‘s Camtasia Studio. As I said, it’s just an older version — one I used to create many videos and instructional tutorials just a few years ago.
Techsmith, makers of Camtasia Studio, SnagIt, and a few other products, has been the leader in the screenshot market for years, and Camtasia Studio is a tool used by many large and small companies, alike. In fact, if you watch many of Microsoft‘s in-house videos, such as tutorials about how to use the speech recognition tool built into Microsoft Windows Vista, you will see Camtasia Studio’s blinking red icon in the systray. Another video and blog entry about the Vista speech recognition, also created using Camtasia Studio, can be found on Long Zheng’s I Started Something blog.
Yes, there’s always “something” behind any giveaway. In this case, Techsmith would like to see you try the software — albeit an older version — that the company is giving you for free. If you like it, they’d like to see you become a customer. If you act on the deal offered on the confirmation page of the Camtasia Studio 3.1.3 giveaway page, you can upgrade to Camtasia Studio 5 for only $149, which is $150 off the regular of $299.
To get the free copy of Camtasia Studio 3.1.3, go to Techsmith’s Camtasia Studio giveaway page, drop the company your name, country, and email address. The serial number will arrive in email seconds later. Then download Camtasia Studio 3.1.3, install it, and using the serial number sent by Techsmith via email, finish the installation.
Be sure to hurry and get your copy of Camtasia Studio 3.1.3 and serial number. I have no idea how long this offer will be available, so if you’re one of the lucky ones, be happy.
Now visit Techsmith’s Camtasia Studio Learning Center, play with the software on your own, and if you like it, I’d urge you to upgrade to the latest version, which does automatic export of video created for iPods, blogs, and other sites, among other great features not in version 3.
While you’re still smiling about having saved an initial investment for Camtasia Studio 3, why not make an end-of-year tax-deductible donation to a non-profit, helping them further its mission. Since I pointed this offer out to you, let me suggest you make the donation to Awake In America, a non-profit focused on sleep and sleep-related issues, such as shift work, sleep deprivation, and sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs, among others. The organization works to improve general awareness about the importance of proper sleep, and how, just like diet, is important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Awake In America also has relief programs designed to assist individuals obtain sleep studies or durable medical equipment, such as CPAP and BiPAP machines, to treat diagnosed sleep apnea for individuals with inadequate or no health insurance, as well as those without the financial means to obtain the services independently. Go ahead. Make a donation and help someone else while you get a great product — Camtasia Studio 3.1.3 — free from Techsmith.
