My best friend, my dog Koda — more like a fuzzy four-legged son to me than a dog – had a serious problem last night. As a result, he’s at the vet being seen on an emergency basis.
We let him out last night to take a before-bedtime pee, but what started out as something usual turned into an event that’s been worrisome.
After Koda went pee last night, you see, he went to come back inside. His front paws made it up the first two of several steps, but then, out of the blue, BAM!
Koda fell flat, unable to get up. We didn’t see any shaking to indicate a seizure, but you could see he was trying to get back up and get in.
Having an audience in his moment of despair stressed him, so we let him rest on the step several minutes, but left the door open for him to come in when ready and able, but also to be able to hear us talking.
After about five minutes, we again went to check on him.
It was at this point that Koda managed to get up, make it inside with a somewhat unsteady walk, and make it back to his doggie den – his favorite sleeping spot, just in front of the front window and behind family seating.
Koda didn’t come out, despite my calling, for about 10 minutes, though it seemed hours.
We spoke with a nurse at the emergency room of a local vet hospital. She said since he has no medical history to indicate anything serious, since it happened but once, since we saw no seizure activity that it could likely wait until his regular vet got into the office in the morning.
First thing this morning, we called the vet. They are going to see my fuzzy son at 11 a.m., and sadly, I cannot be there for several reasons, which makes all this even harder.
