Earlier today I posted about the “misadventures” of Kod, my fuzzy, four-legged son (dog) last night. Well, this is the official update.
Doggies get sick, have health conditions, and sometimes need to see the friendly neighborhood doggy doc (aka veterinarian). That’s where Koda was at about 11 a.m. this morning.
After a thorough check-up, bloodwork, and a reflex test, the vet said:
- it could be a brain tumor, but pretty much ruled out for several reasons
- it could have been a stroke, but after the exam, it was ruled out
- he definitey had a neurological (related to the nervous system) event, that may/could have been caused by a small blood clot that has since disintegrated
- or a petit mal seizure, not to be confused with a full-blown, body bouncing grand mal seizure often depicted in movies.
The blood is to check on his metabolism, checking for high or low blood sugar, and ensure his organs are functioning properly. We expected to hear from the doc about Koda’s bloodwork late tomorrow afternoon.
In testing his reflexes, the doc said Koda seemed just fine.
The doc also checked Koda’s gait (walk/stride) and he’s walking his normal Big Dog strut.
Koda’s reflexes and gait were carefully reviewed because the doc was worrried that Koda may somehow have banged his head in the past several months and suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI)
After all the tests, Koda was given a steroid injection to reduce any possible inflammation in his brain. He was also put on steroid pills for the next 10 days as a precaution. They are going to be fun giving to him: he hates taking pills more than I do. Maybe hiding them in his morning doggy treats will get the dastardly deed done.
