Time for WordPress plugin developers to take note of changes

August 8th, 2008

WordPress 2.6 is the current stable version of the popular blogging software, although WordPress 2.6.1 beta 1 is available for download and testing.

Like with all tech development, plans must be made ahead of time for changes, whether it’s for a new operating system, new kernel in Linux/Unix, or changes to online software, such as WordPress or even a Webmail interface. With development, though, comes testing, trials, and of course, changes. Yes, I said that ominous word that many simply hate: change.

LinuxLive to be released this Fall

August 4th, 2008

I received this press release today. It came from a company I have done business with in the past.

The press release is to announce a soon-to-be released utility for use on Unix and Linux boxes, allowing you to suspend running applications on office workstations or remote Linux and Unix server, and then later, from a remote machine, such as at home, another location, or whatever, resume the applications on a Windows PC.

Beta testing bitter taste and resentment

March 17th, 2008

It’s no secret to many people who know me that I’m active alpha- (or pre-beta, as some tests call it) and beta-test participant. In fact, I love be…

Pollution is now a sin

March 10th, 2008

The Vatican announced today that pollution is among sins — for a new generation — that can lead you to burn in Hell.

U.S. top-secret technology released to the world

February 21st, 2008

Ultra-sensitive technology developed for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), one of several U.S. ultra-secret spy agencies, has been released to the world for all to see.

The NRO, an agency shrouded in secrecy, with less publicly-available information about the organization, its missions, and funding than the National Security Agency (NSA), is often involved in mapping, satellite spying, and other high-tech areas.

Using OneNote to organize your life at work, school, home, or anywhere

January 28th, 2008

Are you one of those people who are constantly on-the-go? Do you work in more than one location, such as in an office, remotely — whether from home, other work sites, or customer locations — and do you work with large volumes of information? If you said yes, then get your four gigabyte USB flash drive handy.

Back in the early days of personal computers — in the late 1970s and early 1980s — there was talk that computers would one day lead to paperless offices. If you read reports that come out every few years, that’s hardly the case. Even so, it doesn’t mean you need to be buried under paper copies of everything you deal with on a regular basis.

Get SnagIt for free for post-Thanksgiving cheer

November 24th, 2007

Thanksgiving is over, and hopefully you walked away from the table last evening with a full belly. In my home, I know my family and extended family did, but even my dog ate better than some people did last night, or, for that matter, any night of the year. That alone was plenty for us to be thankful for, but there were many other things on our list, just to be clear.

Today, though, while clicking through various emails that have been received over the past few days, as well as the blog posts displaying in RSS that I am catching up on today, I found an interesting Black Friday Tech Freebie, one more thing that can help some have even more reason to be thankful for this weekend.

Mac ads to take a look inside?

November 23rd, 2007

The Mac vs. PC ads that ran on national TV for months, then took a short break just prior to the launch of Mac’s Leopard OS update, are back on the air — and ad nauseam at that.

While the argument about Mac-vs.-PC is one of those school yard arguments for elementary school students, the real differences between the machines have really disappeared over the past 10 years or so.

Black Friday Tech Freebie is Camtasia Studio

Nero 8 is finally here!

November 2nd, 2007

In case I’ve not made myself clear in the past about my need for the latest and great, let me clarify: I love new toys, tools, gadgets, and gizmos. I love alpha- and beta-testing, mostly because I get to play with new hardware, software, gadgets, accessories, and such before they are on the market, but more because I love new advances in technology.

Find your Windows key and other info on your computer

September 20th, 2007

Have you ever been in one of those situations where you needed some key information about your computer quickly? Perhaps you called Microsoft’s Tech Support about an issue and needed the serial number for your operating system, or maybe you need your Windows Vista or Windows XP product key to do a quick re-install. You can find the CD, but that long product key is misplaced. If you don’t have the case with the sticker, chances are, Microsoft won’t tell you the product key, as you could be pirating the software.

Blogging about your business is essential

September 14th, 2007

Five years ago, even less in many cases, a lot of businesses didn’t have Web sites, let alone email, so customers could shoot off an email or check the site to see if the store carries a certain product.
