November 28th, 2008

Practice for the Philadelphia Eagles, the National Football League (NFL) team based here in Philadelphia, had to be delayed for about two hours this morning.

One of the players, which the team refuses to identify, reported finding an unknown powdery white substance on the field during practice.

Top 10 things on Cole Hamels’ mind after winning the 2008 World Series

October 31st, 2008

A good friend, DA66, although no longer a Philadelphian, though he does have the basics of Philly still in him, sent this email to me. DA66 is a great guy who has at least one really interesting hobby. It’s tied to his employer, so I won’t go into it, but he’s a new dad — for the second time — so I am trying to give him his 15 minutes of fame.

Here are the top 10 things that went through Cole’s mind after winning the World Series. Looking at the list, nothing about being in the parade today, celebrating the Phillies’ win is on the list. The parade, which was supposed to start at noon today, and go from Philadelphia’s City Hall to Citizens Bank Park, was supposed to last about 90 minutes.

Phillies win 2008 World Series; end Curse of William Penn

October 30th, 2008

In an odd World Series game — game 5 of the series was suspended in the bottom of the sixth inning due to rain, then rained out the next day, and the following day, in just two-and-a-half innings, the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays in the 104th World Series by the score of 4–3.

For the Phils, it has been a dry spell since 1980 in terms of winning the World Series, and for the city of Philadelphia, since 1983 since a championship had been won by a local team. Many locals said it was the Curse of William Penn that kept the teams from winning.

Michael Vick jury ready to start

August 28th, 2007

A hat tip to my friend, Stan M., who came across this great illustration about the Michael Vick dog abuse/dog fighting trial.

It seems to perfectly illustrate the feelings in the U.S. of the people, as well, as well, other interested parties, if they were privy to the facts of the case.

Phillies are first-place losers … or the Champs of Losing

Tim Hardaway hates gays … so be it

February 15th, 2007

Basketball player Tim Hardaway was asked the other day about his views on gay players in the NBA. He said, Well, you know, I hate gay people. So I let it be known I don’t like gay people. I don’t like to be around gay people. You know, I’m homophobic. I don’t like it. It should be (unintelligible) in the world for that or in the United States for it. So, yeah, I don’t like it.
