Time for WordPress plugin developers to take note of changes

August 8th, 2008

WordPress 2.6 is the current stable version of the popular blogging software, although WordPress 2.6.1 beta 1 is available for download and testing.

Like with all tech development, plans must be made ahead of time for changes, whether it’s for a new operating system, new kernel in Linux/Unix, or changes to online software, such as WordPress or even a Webmail interface. With development, though, comes testing, trials, and of course, changes. Yes, I said that ominous word that many simply hate: change.

cForms plugin for WordPress just got better

September 12th, 2007

After three days of email exchanges, Oliver sent me an alpha version of cForms 5.4. Alpha versions of development — pre-beta releases. Betas are basically “stable” products that are being considered for release. I’ve been alpha- and beta-testing for almost 20 years, so I backed up my database, installed and activated cForms 5.4 alpha, and went to work.

WP-DBManager to the rescue

September 1st, 2007

I’ve been running WP-DBManager 2.11 for a few months now, and for the most part, it sat in the background, doing, I suppose, what it was supposed to do on its own. Yes, like anyone who has been down the proverbial road of having to do backups, reinstalls, and disaster recovery, I know enough to check up on things, especially automated processes, such as WP-DBmanager, to be sure everything is working as it should. Each time I checked, it looked as though all systems were a GO!, as NASA would say.

When Sadish closed the competition, which he said drew more responses than he anticipated — 31 posts offering up 78 suggested names — was started on August 11, he said he would announce the winner today, Monday, August 21. He kept his word.

Windows Live Writer gets a beta overhaul

June 7th, 2007

Microsoft released its latest beta, version 1.0 (12.0.1183.516) of Windows Live Writer (WLW), on Monday, June 4, bringing with it a more Vista-like look, even for non-Vista users, I’ve been told by one user, Melody Quick, of TheHometownView.com, along with many other improvements under the hood, as well as on the front end, for the user.

WordPress DevTeam declares WP v.2.1.1 ‘dangerous’

March 3rd, 2007

In fact, the developers went so far as to explain that although not all downloads of [version] 2.1.1 were affected, we’re declaring the entire version dangerous.

SanDisk keyfob bloatware needs some work

February 1st, 2007

When I began fiddling with the SanDisk Cruzer, I found it has this “desktop” software, so you can encrypt the contents of the drive. That’s a nice idea, but since I have no idea what’s behind that encryption, and didn’t take time to hack it, I decided to simply wipe the drive and use it how I use all keyfobs: using my own encryption source. I didn’t wipe everything off the drive, though, until I played with the stuff that came as bonus features.
