Saleh ali Saleh Nabhan was a long-sought senior al Qaeda operative. Nabhan has been tied to several attacks in East Africa, including the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, according to the government.

Nabhan was wanted by the FBI for questioning in connection with the 2002 suicide bombing of an Israeli-owned hotel and the unsuccessful attack on an Israeli charter jet in Mombasa, Kenya.

According to reports, at least a few helicopters flew into the area while a U.S Navy ship kept watch on the operation, ready to provide additional support to the U.S. troops, if needed.

The troops involved in the operation are said to have landed and taken away his body so a positive identification could be made of Nabhan.
