A burglar breaks into your house tonight …
June 10, 2007 at 11:24 am (EDT)
Looking at the title of this post, do not get the idea that this is an ad for a home-security alarm system. I’ve written about home security in the past, but this is not the issue. This issue is as equally important — in many ways — as home security, so be sure to read closely and learn the lessons.
There’s an email going around, and now that the U.S. Congress has dropped the proverbial immigration ball, this may be pointless — for now (just wait until the debate is rekindled before the 2008 Presidential election!), — and then it will matter.
Suppose someone breaks into your home tonight. That’s the starting point for a letter to the editor that one woman used, and, in all the years of reading such letters, this has to be one of the best. In fact, on its topic, it is one of the best that I’ve read, casting aside all the garbage you hear spilling from the innards of the Washington crooks and cronies.
The email circulating reads as follows:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration. Certain people are angry that the U.S. might protect its own borders, making it harder for some to sneak into this country and, once here, for those sneaks to stay in the U.S. indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these protests. Tonight I will break into your house. At some point, by some stroke of luck, you are going to discover me as I wander freely about your home, acting almost as if it were mine. Now, when you discover me, you insist that I leave.
In my defense, I am going to look at you and say, “But I’ve made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I’ve done all the things around here you don’t like to do. I’m hard-working and honest, so why should I be forced to leave?” (Forget the fact that I broke into your house.
According to the protesters:
You are required to let me stay in your house.
You are required to add me to your family’s insurance plan.
You are required to educate my kids in my language.
You are required to provide other benefits to me & to my family, as I want or need.
As a benefit, my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also hard-working and honest. Except for the fact that he, too, broke into your home.
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my right to be here. It’s only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I could ever have on my own, and certainly, that I have right now. I’m just trying to better myself. I’m a hard-working and honest person, except for well, you know, I did break into your house. Can’t you see what a deal this is for me?
I will continue to live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of my keep, if I contribute anything, and there is nothing you can do about it unless you want me to show everyone your cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.
I almost forgot! If you want to communicate with me, I demand that you learn my language because it is the one I grew up knowing, not some strange, foreign language someone is trying to force on me.
Why can’t people see how ridiculous this is?!
Only in America. If you agree, be sure to pass it on (in English only and without forcing anyone to “Press 1″ to read it!).
Share it if you see the value of it. If not, blow it off … along with your future Social Security funds and a lot of of other things!
