Andy Reid leaves Philadelphia Eagles to be with family
February 13, 2007 at 2:38 pm (EST)
Andy Reid announced today he is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles football organization for at least a month to deal with the issues surrounding his ever loving, well-mannered, civic-minded sons.
Can you feel the seething sarcasm?
Andy Reid ought resign his position permanently. He hasn’t led the football team to a Super Bowl victory, despite coaching the team to the ultimate game for NFL teams a few times. There were always legitimate excuses why the team lost. Lack of camaraderie. Lack of coordination. Terrell Owens vs. Donovan McNabb. McNabb’s injuries. T.O.’s attitudes. It was always something.
Then his sons come out, showing their true colors: spoiled, drugged, and gangbanger-wannabe’s. I wonder what kind of "legitimate" excuses can, or rather, will, be made for these boys. They didn’t lack for much. I’m sure their high-priced attorney will figure out some words to say that could, for the price he will demand, to cause "reasonable doubt" in the minds of the jurors. Let’s hope he doesn’t succeed.
It’s a good thing neither tried their antics in North or West Philadelphia. The cops, instead of spending thousands investigating crimes the two young scum bags committed, would have been informing Daddy Andy that his boys were found face down on a cold Philadelphia street. It would have been something reminiscent of the old Elvis Presley song, In the Ghetto, but there would be one major difference in this instance: instead of a young black man laying face down in the street, it would have been at least one upper-class punk kid who thought he could point a gun at others and get away with it.
Nah, it wouldn’t have been a nice thing — for anyone — if Andy Reid’s boys were shot dead. Maybe a shot to the kneecap would teach them a lesson. Perhaps 10 years in prison could teach them a lesson, too. Ten years in a real prison, not one of the country club prisons.
I don’t feel any sorrow for Andy Reid and his kids. Those kids should have been put on a leash as youngsters. Instead, society is now paying a high price — and at least one person suffered physically from injuries received in a car wreck caused by one Reid boy, and another victim who is in counseling for having a gun aimed toward their face while driving in a county outside Philadelphia.
Now when all the snobs from those la-tee-dah areas want to talk about crime in Philadelphia, the Reid boys, I’m sure, will be reminders that it lives out in the upper-class ’burbs, as well, for a long time to come.
