Brash, abrasive, and shoots from

Barbie bandits need a long time in prison

Various media outlets are reporting that Joy Miller, the mother of a 19-year-old woman arrested in Georgia for a bank heist, has read a confession for her dear daughter. Apparently, the kid is publicly confessing to the heists. That means there is no option for her defense attorney to say, "Prove it was my client."

Anyway, Joy Miller says her daughter isn’t a bandit, and, you see, she is trying to making things all better, like a good mommy, by waving her hand and saying that her daughter just fell in with the wrong crowd and made a bad choice.

Barbie Bandits -- Ashley Miller and Heather Johnston during their bank robberyAre you weepy-eyed yet?

Joy Miller believes her daughter, Ashley, is a "little girl." The last time I checked, a 19-year-old is a woman, not a "little girl." Perhaps someone forgot to tell Joy her little bandit, er, Barbie, grew up into what Atlanta media outlets have dubbed a "Barbie Bandit.".

It seems Joy Miller has a few things to learn about parenting. First, a 19-year-old woman is not a "little girl." Second, it’s great the mommy says her daughter isn’t a bandit, but too bad for her, there’s video proof that her daughter really is a bandit. Third, the excuse of her daughter "falling in with the wrong crowd" is something you stop using when a kid is in high school. Once you hit 18, guess what, chicklet? The kid is an adult. If she falls in with "the wrong crowd," well, that’s on her. She should have known better by that age. If you didn’t teach her any better, shame on you.

Joy Miller went on speaking for her daughter in the various media outlets, making an ass of herself, saying her daughter is sorry for what she did. Aww, isn’t that nice? The bank robber is caught and worrying, so now she is pleading through her mommy for people to feel sorry for her.

Back on February 27, Ashley Miller and Heather Johnston, both of whom are 19, were videotaped by bank security cameras wearing sunglasses and laughing as they reportedly robbed a Bank of America branch in Acworth, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.

Police also arrested a bank teller and another man in connection with the theft, saying the heist appeared to be an inside job. Miller and Johnston remained jailed Monday morning.

In an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America yesterday, Joy Miller said:

"I want (people) to know that her and Heather both are not bandits," Joy Miller told ABC’s . "They’re little girls that made a bad choice."

Now, the other girl, Heather Johnston, has a father, Edward, who seems well-grounded in reality, unlike Ashley’s mommy.

Edward Johnston, saying his family was still in shock from the arrest, added:

"God gives us free will and it’s up to us what we do with it," he said. "Any adult has to make decisions and live with them — good, bad or indifferent."

Edward Johnston is right: we all have decisions to make, and then, as a result, we have consequence. For these two girls, the consequences need to be harsh, swift, and long. How about a 10 year break from society? Three squares a day, orange or blue jump suits, and a stylish "P" emblazoned across the back ought make all their friends green with envy. Wait! Maybe their friends are already stylin’ like that, which is the reason the Barbie Bandits got involved in a life of crime in the first place.

The two women, dubbed "teens" by media outlets trying to work up compassion for the pair, were captured by bank surveillance cameras handing a bank teller a note, then casually waiting for the teller to hand over the money as if "it’s all fun and games to them," said Cobb County Police spokesman Wayne Delk.

I thought they were waiting for their pizza and beer to be deliver. I guess that goes to show you can’t judge a bank robbery video by the laughter these days, huh?

Authorities have not said how much money the girls took, but Delk said it is "considerable."

If it were my children, would I be like Joy Miller or Edward Johnston? My children would hate to think I would be like Edward Johnston, but they know that’s just how I would be. In fact, they know I would be the first person calling the cops to have them hauled away, but I would be there for them, none-the-less. I love my children, but if you do something illegal, you will pay the price. If you’re my child, I will still love you, no matter what. It’s just the price of parenthood.

Trying to wipe away the crime with tears and excuses doesn’t cut it. Joy Miller really needs to grow up herself.
