Re-working a corporate logo

While working on creating a new corporate logo for Awake In America, I stumbled across a site called GeoGreeting. It’s really interesting, plus I got a great laugh from it. If I was a little more open and receptive to the idea of using “ransom note” style images for a corporate logo, I would have to consider the output of GeoGreeting’s engine.

What is GeoGreeting?

The site has an input box, where you put in the word or words you wish to translate into geographically-based characters. In my case, I used the words: Awake In America. From that, the GeoGreeting engine came up with this output:

So, what? That’s ugly!

For a corporate logo, you’re absolutely right! That is ugly. I wouldn’t consider that for a logo for anything.

Now, let’s pause for a minute, open a link to the GeoGreeting site, and take a look at the real logo the site creates. Yes, it’s done with fly-out letters, pulling everything from GoogleMaps, and when everything’s done, you get an extra treat when you slide your mouse over the letters of the logo. Why not take just a minute to look at Awake In America’s GeoGreeting banner on the GeoGreeting site. You may just want to use it for a birthday or “over the hill” (aka Over 40) birthday e-card for a friend.

… Okay, welcome back!

Welcome back from your visit to GeoGreeting!

So, did you learn a lot?

I must admit, as a geek, I like the “K” element used by GeoGreeting, as it reminds me of the “K” in KDE. In reality, the letter “K” is an aerial shot of a building in Salt Lake City, Utah. Yes, I liked that!

Okay, so it doesn’t take much to amuse me.

Now that you know I’m in the middle of re-working the corporate logo for Awake In America, why not drop me an email from the Awake In America site if you want to help create a new logo for the organization.
