Another politico bites the dust

It seems that every few months, another multi-term politician
is apologizing and stepping down from office, or, in the case of a Congressman who sought homosexual encounters in airport men’s rooms, promising to step down, but lying about that, as well.
The latest politician caught in the adulterous web is the six-term Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY), who was nabbed by police in Alexandria, Virginia, just after midnight on May 1.
It seems the elected official, sworn to uphold the laws of the land, ran a red light in Alexandria, and when stopped, was given a blood-alcohol test. The results of that test showed he had 0.17 blood alcohol content, which is twice the legal limit in Virginia.
When he was stopped, he told the police officer he was on his was to visit a sick daughter, offering an Alexandria address as his destination.
The day after his red light run and driving while intoxicated (DWI) stop, Fossella apologized, saying he made "an error in judgment." Very lame, especially for a 43-year-old man elected to one of the most powerful positions in American government.
To make amends, Fossella, who has taken many anti-gay stances, said he will be ending his bid for a seventh-term, but also will be stepping down at the end of the 110th Congress.
Why was the congressman drinking, driving while intoxicated, and dodging red lights? Well, it seems he had been celebrating the Super Bowl champion New York Giants’ appearance at the White House with constituents. How sweet, and from there, while drunk, drove to visit his sick daughter, and this is where things get interesting.
About a week later, Fossella, who’s married, was again saying telling his family and constituents that he made an oopsie. That’s when it was learned he had an extra-marital affair with a gal by the name of Laura Fay, and as a result of the extra-marital activities, a daughter, which is who he was dodging red lights while drunk, to visit.
The details of his affair were discovered after his arrest was spotted by reporters. The officer’s notes showed the address of "his sick daughter," and from there, things spiraled out of control for the congressman.
If there are any other drunks, adulterers, or criminals in Congress, step forward now. Oh, wait! At least half of Congress would take a step based on that criteria, right? Well, in November, don’t re-elect anyone. Help make a clean sweep in Washington.
