Sleep humor for sleep deprived Americans and others

September 11, 2007 at 3:59 pm (EDT)

I stumbled across a video a few minutes ago that I thought was an ad by . It’s a hilarious look at sleep, sleep deprivation in American society, along with a variety of other sleep-related issues, such as sexual dysfunction, among others.

As the teaser said, no matter if you have insomnia, if you’re a fan, or have sleep apnea, this show may help you fall asleep. Well, not really. Bedtime should help with that, as should warm milk.

At first glance I thought the video was an ad from Respironics, as it mentioned the company several times. Heck, it even showed off some cool, yet incorrectly worn headgear (just for you non-hoseheads, that is a type of "mask" that delivers air through your nasal passages), a CPAP machine, and a guy just having a great time "stayin’ alive" using his CPAP all day long.

John Travolta’s strut from Saturday Night Fever isn’t even safe in this video. Instead of my waxing on about it, just click the video and watch it for yourself. It’s hilarious that the video makes use of the BeeGees‘ song, Stayin’ Alive, made popular in the movie, when, in fact, CPAP and BiPAP machines are used to do just that: help you to keep stayin’ alive.

Now, when the video’s all over, be sure to leave your comments below. Seriously.

  • Extremely funny! An inevitability someday however.

  • @SmokeyB50: An inevitability? Wow!

I can see it now, all the gals going to Curves and all the guys hanging outside, peeking in the windows, and all of them having CPAPs in their arms, or, better yet, using their as pseudo-weights and lifting them over their head. Something like, “Conditioning Drill 22, Exercise 193: The CPAP Lift! This is a four-count exercise. Begin! And one and two and three and ONE! And one and two and three and TWO And one and two and three …”

Thanks for building onto the humor of the video, SmokeyB50!.

  • Cute video.
Lots of truth to what she reported.

We ARE over worked & don’t get enough sleep.
    I know….I drive a chartered motorcoach.
Many of my fellow drivers use a sleep apnea breathing machine.

  • Stan, thanks for sharing!

It’s nice to know, in many ways, that professional drivers have been diagnosed — are getting diagnosed — and are using the CPAP and BiPAP machines.

Now, if only we can overcome that nasty issue of drivers — any driver, not just professional drivers — being too tired, too sleepy, to be behind the wheel.

    Sleep well, Stan.
