Dr Pepper site crashes under Chinese Democracy giveaway visitor load

Get a free 20 ounce Dr Pepper if you can get to the Dr Pepper homepage, which has crashed. I went to the Dr Pepper site to see how it was holding up during the Chinese Democracy launch free Dr Pepper giveaway promotion has now been underway for just over 13½ hours. What did I find? That my thoughts of a server crash had panned out.

In my original post about the Dr Pepper free 20-ounce soda for all Americans because Guns N’ Roses’ album, Chinese Democracy has hit store shelves after 17 years in the making, I noted that planning by the Dr Pepper IT staff was a critical factor in this promotion.

‘Chinese Democracy’ earns free Dr Pepper to everyone in U.S.

Dr Pepper 20.-oz. bottle (photo courtesy Dr Pepper) It seems Chinese Democracy is finally here — the album from Guns N’ Roses, not actually democracy in China — and if the band’s 17-year-in-the-making album hits store shelves on Sunday, “It’s going to be so easy, easy for every American to get a free Dr Pepper as promised,” said Tony Jacobs, Dr Pepper’s vice president of marketing.

“We never thought this day would come,” said Jacobs. “But now that it’s here all we can say is: The Dr Pepper’s on us.”
