Poem ponders America under Barack Obama

One month from today, it’s projected that more than a million people will be converging onto the Mall in Washington, D.C. to “take part” — from afar, but in the same small district in the United States — where the 44h President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama, will be inaugurated.

That’s right, one month from today — January 20, 2009 at noon — Obama will become the president of the free world. For that event, even in a lousy economy and in fear of job loss, people are willing to pony up hundreds, and many people, thousands of dollars for “choice location” on the Mall. To be honest, the only prime location is within 75 to 100 feet of the inaugural ceremony itself. Anything further, well, stay home and watch it on television.

If you’re reading this, thank an American Veteran

People in America often take freedoms and rights for granted, never giving much thought to the price of those sacredly-held treasures that much of the world doesn’t have, let alone understand.

The thing many people often forget is that every freedom assured the citizens of the United States of America have been bought by the sweat, tears, toil, and often, the very blood, of members — men and women — of the U.S. Armed Forces, which include the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

Sleepy time in the U.S.A.

In moving the clocks ahead one hour, we are effectively losing an hour of sleep. Without proper preparation for the time change, people end up sleepy. In honor of sleepy people, as well as a tribute to our men and women in uniform, here’s a great video.
