Revising Colonial history Philadelphia style

July 5th, 2008

Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross, two figures in America’s Colonial history, have been married, and are now finishing up commitments prior to escaping the Philadelphia area this Fall for a planned honeymoon.

The newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Franklin, plan on keeping their daily occupations. Mr. Franklin is a statesman, scientist, printer and publisher, and has numerous other duties to the city, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and to the United States government. He also serves as postmaster, and also is responsible for printing currency, especially since he developed a way to help keep forgery of the currency to a minimum.

April 4th is one of those days with that makes history interesting

April 4th, 2008

April 4 has a couple of interesting items that have made an impact on society. One that’s helped lead mankind forward digitally, the other helped lead mankind forward, somewhat, through civil rights.

McCain’s straight talk about home loans is on-target

March 28th, 2008

McCain scored a point with me when he said that no emergency bailout should be made to the people who obtained these mortgages. His opponents, though, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, have made comments in the recent past that some kind of “help” ought be made available to the people with these mortgages. My question to Clinton and Obama would be: “Why? Are you looking at rewarding bad and irresponsible behavior?”

A good photo says it all

March 12th, 2008

They say a photo is worth a thousand words. What about photos that express more than words? What about photos that reach down, into the pit of your heart, that grab your emotions, and make you feel joy or happiness?

Obama, Obama, Osama, Obama. Oops.

February 6th, 2008

Barack Obama has one of those names that just doesn’t roll off my tongue. No amount of practice will make that happen, it seems. In an effort to try to make his name one of those one the tip of my tongue names, I even tried using the tune from Louie Louie, a classic rock and roll song, written in 1955 by Chuck Berry, singing, Obama, Obama, but what happened next, most likely predictable, especially in this day and age, things changed.

As I sang the self-created lyrics in an effort to get Obama’s name a familiar roll on my tongue, the words, Obama, Obama … yeah, Obama, Obama became, eerily enough, Obama, Obama … Osama, Obama.

New Jersey took the forgive-us plunge

January 10th, 2008

Well, as many people expected, the politicos running the State of New Jersey took the “forgive us” plunge by making an official proclamation to apologize for its history with slavery.

Sure, New Jersey did many stupid things in its history, including standing against the Emancipation Proclamation, as well as being the last state in the United States to abolish slavery, but this apology — for something more than 143 years old — is loonier than Looney Tunes.

New Jersey politicos may start looking for 40 acres and a mule

January 6th, 2008

Reparationism is alive and well in some parts of the U.S., it seems, and in New Jersey, it seems the states current batch of politicos are getting ready to bow down to the cause célèbre that many seem to near and dear these days.

Back in 2002, if you recall, a black college student, Deadria Farmer-Paellmann, said she discovered evidence linking U.S. corporations to slave trade. As a result of her “discovery,” she filed a federal lawsuit that could potentially be worth billions of dollars in reparations for the descendants of slaves in America.
