Beloit College Class of 2012 Mindset List has been released

August 22nd, 2008

Beloit College’s Class of 2012 Mindset List has been released. It’s a list of things that incoming freshmen – most of whom were born in 1990 – are familiar with, but things they also don’t know or comprehend. For example, Harry Potter could very well be one of their classmates, the Class of 2012 Mindset List notes.

The list was started by Beloit’s Keefer Professor of the Humanities Tom McBride and Public Affairs Director Ron Nief, providing insight into the life and realities — as they exist — for incoming freshmen. It provides cultural touchstones that shape the lives of the incoming students, sometimes making it easier for a professor to understand why some students don’t grasp course content. one such example, for which I must be an exception, is this year’s item #20.

LinuxLive to be released this Fall

August 4th, 2008

I received this press release today. It came from a company I have done business with in the past.

The press release is to announce a soon-to-be released utility for use on Unix and Linux boxes, allowing you to suspend running applications on office workstations or remote Linux and Unix server, and then later, from a remote machine, such as at home, another location, or whatever, resume the applications on a Windows PC.

Black Friday Tech Freebie is Camtasia Studio

November 23rd, 2007

Thanksgiving is over, and hopefully you walked away from the table last evening with a full belly. In my home, I know my family and extended family did, but even my dog ate better than some people did last night, or, for that matter, any night of the year. That alone was plenty for us to be thankful for, but there were many other things on our list, just to be clear.

Today, though, while clicking through various emails that have been received over the past few days, as well as the blog posts displaying in RSS that I am catching up on today, I found an interesting Black Friday Tech Freebie, one more thing that can help some have even more reason to be thankful for this weekend.

Find your Windows key and other info on your computer

September 20th, 2007

Have you ever been in one of those situations where you needed some key information about your computer quickly? Perhaps you called Microsoft’s Tech Support about an issue and needed the serial number for your operating system, or maybe you need your Windows Vista or Windows XP product key to do a quick re-install. You can find the CD, but that long product key is misplaced. If you don’t have the case with the sticker, chances are, Microsoft won’t tell you the product key, as you could be pirating the software.
