If elections could really create change …
If elections, or rather the end result of elections, could create change, especially the kind of change that a couple of politicians, especially one who’s grossly inexperienced, do you think you, as a citizen, would have a say?
Think about it for a second: if you could really cause a positive (or negative) impact on the future of the country, do you think American citizens would have the right to speak their mind about the outcome, let alone participate in the process?
Surely you don’t hold the idea that your vote counts. In the presidential election, it is the Electoral College that has final say. Regardless of the popular vote, each state has electors for the presidential election. Those electors decide which candidate will get that particular state’s votes. Pretty scary, huh?
Here’s a visual to help you better grasp the idea.
By the way, today is Tuesday, November 4, 2008. That means it is the day for you and all other law-abiding citizens of the United States to cast your vote in the 2008 Presidential election. Be sure to cast your vote. In the end, your vote may be tossed out by the electors in your state, but that’s a matter for you to deal with in another election.
